Definition
1. Species anchoring: Must be a horse, not a "long faced donkey"
This is the most easily confused point of overturning.
Core identification points:
Neck: Horses have arched necks (with raised upper edges), donkeys have straight necks, and mules are in between.
Ears: Horse ears are short and upright (about 12-15cm), while donkey ears are long and wide (up to 25cm).
Mane: Horses have long, drooping (or trimmed upright) manes on the neck and back, while donkeys only have short, straight bristles.
Tail: The ponytail hair cascades down from the tail root, and the donkey's tail is like a cow's tail with a tuft of hair at the end.
Exclusion item: Long face+straight neck+tufted hair at the tail end=donkey; Deer antlers+horse body=elk; Unicorn+Horse Body=Unicorn - The latter two are fantasy creatures, not plush horses.
2. Posture solidification: Four legged landing, no personification allowed
Horse plush is one of the few animal plush categories that strictly prohibits upright walking.
Legitimate posture:
Standing position: Four feet vertically landing, with even weight-bearing capacity.
Strolling state: One front hoof is slightly raised, and the diagonal rear hoof is off the ground.
Running state: Extend all four feet, with support for the abdomen (transparent fishing line hanging or built-in hard frame).
Taboo posture: standing upright with hind legs, bowing with front hooves raised high, standing on both feet wearing a skirt - that is a personified cartoon horse, not a legitimate plush horse.
3. Proportional locking: the golden ratio of head, neck, and torso
The anatomical structure of horses is extremely rigid:
Body length ≈ 1.1 times shoulder height (purebred horses tend to be longer, Arabian horses tend to be longer).
Head length ≈ one-third of shoulder height.
Neck length ≈ 1.5 times head length.
Any horse plush that deviates from these proportions and has not been stylized will be deemed "deformed" by equestrian enthusiasts.
4. Function anchoring: interactive mane tail
Legitimate horse plush must have a combing mane and tail hair.
The material must be long fibers (polyester silk, mohair, real mohair), allowing users to comb and braid them.
The 'fake mane' with flocking/short printing belongs to the low hairline and is not recognized by core collectors as horsehair.

Craft Hell: Why is horse plush the technological ceiling?
1. Difficulty in weight-bearing on limbs
Bears can land on all fours or sit; Rabbits can lie down. Horses must stand and have extremely thin legs.
Cheap solution: Without internal support, the four legs are weak and collapsed, and the horse is lying on the ground - this is a donkey, not a horse.
Advanced plan: Each leg is equipped with a spiral steel pipe or rubber coated wire, bent into a foot ring at the end, and inserted into the main body skeleton.
Top tier solution: Full metal exoskeleton with movable joints (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, tarsi), capable of performing dressage poses.
2. Difficulty of neck suspension
The neck of the horse is raised horizontally, with the base at a 45-60 degree angle to the shoulders and back, and completely hollowed out below.
Ordinary filling cannot support: cotton will sink and the neck will collapse year by year.
Solution: an independent foam liner or EVA shaped shell inside the neck, wrapped with glue spraying cotton.
3. Difficulties in bristle implantation
Real horsehair is a single row of long hair that grows along the midline of the neck and back.
Mane planting process:
Sewing method: Sew long fibers into the neck and sew them down in a tassel shape. The advantage is natural, but the disadvantage is that the stitching is prone to breakage.
Implantation method: Single tuft hair bundles are hooked into the fabric, with extremely high density, close to the real bristle density. It takes 20 times more time than the sewing method.
Wig strip method: The entire mane is made into a spring and fixed with Velcro. Can be replaced for cleaning, but the root appears fake.
4. Horseshoe Performance
The real horseshoe is a hard shell with keratin, and plush must express this "hardness".
Low end: Same color velvet fabric sewn into a cylindrical shape.
Mid end: wrapped in black suede or PU leather, with printed hoof and fork patterns.
High end: Hard resin horse hooves, embedded with plush legs - this is the method used for custom dolls of racing grade.

Cultural symbol: It's not just a toy
1. Cavalry Memory
Old European workshops are still making plush cavalry horses, with detachable saddles that match the size of real saddles - this is the military romanticism of adult men.
2. Girl's Equestrian Dream
One of the core consumer groups of horse plush is girls who are learning equestrianism. They cannot afford or raise real horses, so they use top of the line realistic plush to replace them: combing the mane, weaving the tail, and crossing the saddle every day, which is a highly serious "pseudo breeding behavior".
3. Agricultural nostalgia
In northern China, rural born 80s/90s have a collective memory of mules and horses. Some independent artisans will customize plush "cart horses" to recreate the body shape of a draft horse from the agricultural era - thick neck, short feet, and thick hooves.
